This month’s review is by an author we’re still just acquainting ourselves with, but no doubt we’ll be reading more by her, as soon as possible. Read on, dear patron and enjoy!

A review of
Night Pleasures
by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Amanda thought she was having a horrid week, having just endured an embarrassing dinner with her quirky family, that resulted in the demise of her engagement; then she found herself kidnapped, and locked in a dark cellar, handcuffed to a mysterious, and very testy man who claimed to be a warrior in an ancient conflict between vampiric daimons, and Dark Hunters, overseen by Olympian gods; and now, they’re both being held hostage by a daimon named Desiderius; yet soon they are released, find a way to snap their handcuffs and go on with their separate lives, glad to be rid of one another—with only the memory of a few steamy kisses to remind them of the horrid night. Which doesn’t seem quite so bad, all things considered. But Kyrian is on a mission, and has to find a way to take Desiderius out for good, before he steals yet another soul—this time, possibly Amanda’s. But in this ongoing fight between Dark Hunters and daimons, Kyrian finds himself up against his worst nightmare as the daimons seem to know more about him than he’d like, right down to his ancient military rank, and worse, the betrayal that led him to swear allegiance to Artemis and her Dark Hunters—in Ancient Roman times.

Though they’d rather avoid one another, Amanda and Kyrian can’t seem to resist each other, and as much as Kyrian wants to protect her, Amanda finds herself compelled to decipher Kyrian’s secrets, and to protect and assist him, no matter what—even if it means letting him face his darkest fear, and facing her own.

Will Kyrian stubborn Amanda to death? Will Amanda ever be able to tell her sisters she’s in love with an immortal warrior, or will she walk away from Kyrian and the Dark Hunters, bid them all good riddance? And if she does, will Kyrian be able to defeat Desiderius on his own? You’ll have to read to find out.

In Night Pleasures, I think Sherrilyn Kenyon was just beginning to excel at the blending of ancient lore, and vampire fantasy, and though I found some of the pop culture references (as I always tend to do with such contemporary settings) a little droll and grating, in the end she created here a vision as mysterious as it was charming and in some instances, funny; a duo as endearing as they were exasperating, and I found it quite enjoyable indeed, and look forward to reading about the rest of her intrepid Dark Hunters. Do give Night Pleasures a read. I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
