This month’s review is by another author who is new to us. She mixes, in our opinion all the right elements, from the classical and mythological worlds to the historic and modern, with more than a touch of fantasy and romance, so this was a treat. Do read on. We hope you will enjoy this latest offering.

Fantasy Lover
By
Sherrilyn Kenyon

In this first novel by Sherrilyn Kenyon, our heroine, Grace finds another birthday is upon her, and as a gift, her best friend Serena (a local psychic, a pagan, and a girl Grace feels to be a little goofy) convinces her they should conjure a Macedonian warrior to be her sex slave. Grace, ever incredulous, somehow finds herself convinced and before the night is out, participating in another of Serena's goofy rituals.

Little do they know Serena's magic will actually succeed, this time, or what's in store, when none other than Julian of Macedon arrives, and turns out, ;) he's been cursed for all eternity to live in a book, until someone calls him forth, at which time, he'll do their bidding for a month.

Furious Grace deals as best she can, but Julian is somewhat of a walking time bomb, with a host of mischievous--and angry--Greek gods on his back, from Priapus to Cupid and Psyche, to his mother, Aphrodite Herself, and a centuries-old sin to atone for to boot. And gods help her, Grace finds she actually wants to free Julian from his curse, about as much as she just plain wants him!

How much trouble is Grace in for? Can she, Serena, and Julian himself appease the gods and break the curse they've laid upon him? You'll have to read to find out!

This was Sherrilyn Kenyon's first novel, and the first I'd ever read in her oeuvre, and I have to say, I think she did a wonderful job. At this point in my Romance novel reading career, I have to say, as romances go, it was a little predictable, and a little droll in some places--but then, if one is honest about the genre, aren't they all? I'm not too sure I wasn't a little protective, going in, about the Greek myths and gods (I did feel a little sense of protectiveness when Athena arrived ;)), but hey, this isn't Homer we're talking about here.

But, aside from that protective streak, I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic, quirky little novel. Do give Fantasy Lover a try, if you have a mind to. I'm sure you'll enjoy their quest as much as I.
