Circus of the Damned
By
Laurell K. Hamilton
Circus of the Damned, the third novel in the Anita Blake series sees Anita up to her ears in trouble. Typical of her, you say? Aw, well, this time, it's slightly different, for not only does she have Jean-Claude's advances to worry about, but Jean-Claude's very life, as several different factions, from ancient vampires to the HAV, come to Anita, seeking information that will help them destroy her old friend/nemesis. She's a wee bit smarter than that, though, which leads her to all sorts of trouble, both from the vampires, and from the HAV. On top of all that, she's got advances to avoid from yet another vampire, who is just as interested in making her his human servant as is Jean-Claude. But he's a wild one, this Alejandro, born out of the Aztec world of old, and if you think Jean Claude is arrogant? HA! You haven't seen a thing until you see this vampire in action!
On top of that there is a vampire war brewing, of which Anita herself is a central prize; and there are giant cobras, HAV folk, yet another ancient vampire and a host of servants to dodge; meanwhile Anita has to train a rookie animator, try to make her best friend's Halloween party, and not miss out on a date with a very interesting new fella, Richard, whom she met with the (ahem) help of Jean-Claude; and if all that weren't enough, she's also got to try very hard not to run afoul of Bert, her boss at Animator’s Inc. and of course, the ever intrepid vampire executioner extradonaire, Edward, all this while she attempts helps the police (something the poor overworked girl tends to forget now and again--who can blame her?) solve some very odd vampire murders. Oh, yes, and there's also a Lamia on the loose.
And this doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of this tiny, 300 page book!
Phew! One wonders if poor Anita will collapse from exhaustion, or lose her marbles, before all is said and done! Does she? Once again, the answers lie within. ;) Give Circus of the Damned (and of course the entire Anita Blake series) a try; we are sure you'll enjoy it very much!
